One of the first questions I ask my clients is "How do
you see yourself on your wedding day?" The most common responses are
'natural, fresh, radiant, classic and put together'. When shopping for
everything bridal , it is very important you put yourself in everything. If you see yourself as a classic bride, the
timeless and traditional elements for your wedding will keep everything
consistent with your dress style as well as hair and makeup.
Having
an up-do to enhance your beautiful dress' neckline as well as neutrals/pinks
and soft colors for your makeup is key.
The one question brides should ask themselves is , 'will I love my
wedding photographs in 20 years?'. If you are too trendy then the answer will
most likely be NO.
One
hint for brides is to dress the part. Put on a cute, casual dress when meeting
with your potential bridal vendors and pay special attention to your hair and
makeup. Your vendors will see you have taken the time to look presentable just
as they have. This does not need to be overwhelming, so here are a few makeup
and hair quick tips you can use before the countless bridal meetings with your
planner and other vendors.
Find
your favorite tinted moisturizer, such as Laura Mercier spf 20, to protect your
skin for a busy day...(you get a LOT of UV damage through the windows in your
car!). After your tint, apply a
hydrating tinted powder such as Smashbox Halo Hydrating Powder to set it. I love this product because you turn the
container which has a sifter to get exactly the amount of product you need each
time you use it.
If you have several vendor meetings it is so important to use
an eye primer so your eye shadow wears all day without fading or falling under
your eyes and making you look more tired than you actually are. Urban Decay or my CLM primer work wonders to
give your eyes a good base and smoothing prior to shadow application. Next you can use a shimmery champagne color
shadow or golden bronze color to open your eyes and look awake and
refreshed. Choose a soft taupe or medium
brown for your crease to add definition and dimension. Mascara should be used on top and bottom
lashes with at least two coats on the top. My favorite drug store brand is
L'Oreal Voluminous. Choose a soft pink or peachy blush to apply to the apples
of your cheeks and swipe upward to the temples.
I use Nars 'orgasm' blush and their illuminator 'Copacabana' or MAC's
'plum foolery' or 'coy girl' depending on my mood!
For the
lips, choose a soft pink or rose color that has long-wearing benefits such as
my CLM lip stain combo in Burlesque Pink or NYX lip cream. You can touch up
throughout the day with your favorite gloss or the clear gloss on CLM lip stain
combo. This soft look will help you when trying on gowns and let YOU shine through, happy and
glowing soon-to-be bride. Have fun and smile, that is your best accessory!
